SPRUCE #1 This dulcimer has an approx. 1 inch line below upper right soundhole.  It is not  a crack but has the appearance of one.

SPRUCE #2 has irregular points on some of the hummingbird's wing on the right side.

TK O'Brien's all solid wood 4 string dulcimer. Walnut throughout with a spruce top.   Spruce is a soft wood and can be dented and that is an expected occurrence with frequent handling/playing.  The tradeoff is a warmer sound than a hard wood.

Dimensions are 34 1/2 inches long, 7 1/8 inches wide lower bout, 2 1/8  inches deep and the fretboard is a comfortable 1 1/2 inches wide.  The scale length is 25 1/2 inches. The vaulted fretboard increases resonance. The nut is glued in.  It has a zero fret for easy tuning.  The 6 1/2 fret and 13 1/2 fret are included. The bridge is a floating style that is not glued in but is marked on the sides of the fretboard so that when you change strings you align it with the marks.  A floating bridge is helpful when over time you need to make changes in the bridge position to correct for intonation changes.  Strings are TK O'Brien's and sizes are melody .012, middle .014 and bass .024. Tuning gears are closed gearbox chrome machines.

The soundhole is a hummingbird on the lower bout and vines on the upper bout.
